Your support and contributions will enable us to continue ministry at the prison.
It is our mission to lift high the name of Jesus with our consistent presence at the Mike Durfee State Prison. We seek to present the Gospel message to the lost of the prison population and provide discipleship to both new and veteran Christians within the prison population.
Jesus is very clear about our responsibility to visit the prisoner (See Matthew 25:36). Prison has long been a place of importance in Christian history, going back to the letters Paul wrote in prison, to the Belgic confession written by Guido De Bres while incarcerated and in more recent times the ministries that were born of Chuck Colsen’s conversion behind bars. In my experience, I have found that many individuals that wouldn’t stop for 10 seconds to give Jesus a thought on the “outside”, have a change of heart when they find themselves stripped of their independence within a prison. This quote by the formerly incarcerated Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick echoes the testimony of many; "I wanted a chance to redeem myself," he said. "Pre-incarceration, it was all about me. When I got to prison, I realized I couldn't do it anymore. The one thing I could rely on was my faith in God." Our desire is to be present in the lives of individuals who come to a place of surrendering to God within the walls of Mike Durfee Prison, as well as offering discipleship for those wanting to grow in their faith.
We strongly believe that this opportunity within the Mike Durfee Prison (Population 1,250 men) has been from the beginning, a prompting from the Lord. The need for Living Stone's presence in Mike Durfee as well as the affirmation that we have been planted in the right mission field is evident every time we enter the razor wire fence. The hunger for the Gospel is felt in all 6 units of the Mike Durfee Prison. The call for the consistent presence of the mid-range denomination such as the RCA is very real, and it is our intention to follow the Lord's lead in promoting the Gospel in this prison context.
Every Sunday night, we have an evening worship service from 6:30-8:30. Please let us know when you can join us in worship. Outside guest are always very much appreciated by the guys!
Whether you help through monetary donations, volunteering your time, or spreading our mission through word-of-mouth, thank you. We couldn't accomplish our goals without the help of supporters like you.
I am a 2nd career pastor with a background that includes prison corrections. I began involvement in prison ministry as a volunteer in the summer of 2007, and worked as an Intern Pastor with the Cornerstone Prison Church (CRC) in the South Dakota State Penitentiary, from May of 2010 until January of 2012. I have been married to my ministry partner, Ruth, for 22 years and we have 3 wonderful children together. After seeking the Lord's direction for ministry, He has led us to the Mike Durfee State Prison as our mission field. Through our work with Living Stone as well as the valuable time spent with Cornerstone, we have learned powerfully that razor wire and prison bars do nothing to stop the Grace of God through Christ Jesus. Through your support and encouragement of Living Stone Prison Church, we look forward to continuing to see the power of Jesus transform lives in Mike Durfee State Prison. Pastor Jason
